November Bilingual Blog Hop!

Hello everyone!

It's been awhile since I've been on my blog!
Before we start, I would like to list THREE things that I am truly thankful for!!!
1.  I am thankful for my family!  I love them all with all of my heart!  I am truly blessed to have every single one of them in my life!
2.  I am thankful to have such a fantastic kindergarten team!  We work so well together and I am so happy that we all can team and bounce ideas off of each other!
3.  I am thankful for all of my friends!  I appreciate all of you so much!

*****************************************

I hope your year has started off to a fabulous start!  Our district started off with a new math series as well as a new reading series.

With our reading series, I needed to create a structured activity for one of my paras to use during our small group instruction.  My students have been making huge gains with letter names and sounds, but were still struggling with their sight words.  Once I started implementing these activities, my students have started flourishing, especially with their sight words.  I haven't finished creating them all, but eventually, I will have one activity book per week to use alongside the Maravillas Reading Series.  You definitely do not have to have this curriculum to use these books.

Each book is sequential and reviews the lessons from prior weeks.  How do I use these books?
I laminate these books and bind them so they are easy to access for the following year.  I also use these books for Interventions with students who need extra help.  I also copy these off and give them to our Special Education teacher who hasn't received any materials.

Click on ANY of the pictures to download your freebie!  The mini book will include all pages! Be sure to scroll to the very bottom to enter to win MORE of these Little Books! :-)  I will bundle ALL of the little books I have up until this point for the giveaway!  :-)

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Maravillas-Tema-1-Semana-3-LETRA-T-1495933Page 1:  Introduce the letter of for the week and the sound it makes.
Example:   T suena /t/      /t/   /t/  /tigre/, and so on with each picture.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Maravillas-Tema-1-Semana-3-LETRA-T-1495933Page 2:  Game Board    Review pictures on the page that begin with the letter of the week.  Model the new word of the week and where to find it on the game board.  Then models saying:  letra ___, palabra ___, letra ___, palabra ___ and then the students join in.  You can play your own game using this.  We use this page to help the students track their eyes and follow along with their fingers.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Maravillas-Tema-1-Semana-3-LETRA-T-1495933Page 3 & 4:  Use the strategy of "I do, we do, you do" with the students.  Teacher models, teacher rereads the line with the students, the students read each line as a group (no teacher help).  Depending on your reading groups:  My Middle and Low groups I use the above strategy.  With my High group, I use the strategy, "I do, you do"

1)  Review pictures at the top of the page.  Example:  /t/ /t/ toro, /t/ /t/ tina, /t/ /t/ taco, /t/ /t/ teléfono    2)  Review letter names and or sight words
3)  Review the sight words from all prior lessons.
4)  Review the syllables of the week.  Everyone teaches Spanish a little different.  I teach the students to read as /sound/ /sound/ then blend the /syllable/.  Example:  /t/ /a/ /ta then go on to the next syllable

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Maravillas-Tema-1-Semana-3-LETRA-T-1495933 Pages 5 & 6:  Practice reading sentences using the “I do, we do, you do strategy.”

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Maravillas-Tema-1-Semana-3-LETRA-T-1495933Page 7:  Student practice segmenting words into syllables.  I have the students touch their head, shoulders, hips, knees, & toes for each syllable.  Example:  telaraña:  te - touch your head, la - touch your shoulders, ra - touch your hips, ña - touch your knees.  This really helps them identify their syllables when segmenting.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Maravillas-Tema-1-Semana-3-LETRA-T-1495933Page 8:  Students practice segmenting the word on their own and can 1) use their finger to draw a line from the picture to initial syllable, use a dry erase marker to initial syllable, or 3) use Wikki sticks to form a line to the initial syllable.

Back to school organizing the new reading curricula

Hello all,

Oh my goodness it has been crazy getting things ready for back to school!  We have a new Math curriculum and a new Reading Curriculum this year!  So many things to organize!

You can get these labels FREE from my TPT store! Click on the pictures below to take you to this FREEBIE!!

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/LABELS-for-Organizing-your-Wonders-Maravillas-Reading-Series-1383474   http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/LABELS-for-Organizing-your-Wonders-Maravillas-Reading-Series-1383474  http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/LABELS-for-Organizing-your-Wonders-Maravillas-Reading-Series-1383474

Our English teachers received McGraw Hill - WONDERS and the Spanish teachers were given McGraw Hill - Maravillas.  I had to figure out a way to organize these!  So... here you go!  A freebie from me if you have this series! I created a bunch of labels for both the English and Spanish curricula! :-)

If you notice, my labels were placed on my tubs BEFORE my teaching partner found this awesome punch that was the PERFECT size!  LOVE this punch!  She got it from Joanne Fabrics!  My student tubs are in Spanish for my kids to use, but the tubs on the bottom two shelves are labeled in ENGLISH in case I get a sub.  It is a rarity that I get my subs in Spanish, so I have to leave things where subs can find them! :-)  At least, they can pull materials for when my paras come in to review with the students.  We get 45 minutes a day of Small group Spanish reading.

The tubs on the bottom were purchased from the Target Dollar spot for $3/each.  I know you can get these from Lakeshore and Really Good Stuff as well.  The tubs on left top - Target Dollar spot a few years ago.  Tubs on the right - Lakeshore.  I like the Lakeshore tubs.  They are a lot sturdier and wider to fit notebooks!  The tubs on the left barely fit a writing notebook.  They do fit my workbooks for our new reading series though!  The white cubes with trays came from Michael's for $19.99 on sale!  I LOVE THEM!  Great for storage!

I hope you all have a great back to school!!

Fourth of July Blog Hop!!

Before we begin...

I want to take a moment and thank all of the Veteran's out there and to those who are currently serving in our military!

Here is a picture of my dad when he was serving in Vietnam and another picture of him on a day hike.  I am proud to say he is my dad and a Veteran.  Thank you to all of the Veteran's out there.  I appreciate all you have done!

**************************************

I have always had a hard time organizing my classroom.  Over the last few years, I've become a lot more organized purchasing tubs and storing everything in my tubs.  It was hard at first to let go of the box that the materials came in, but after I started taking pictures of my boxes and or materials it became a lot easier.

This is an editable item, so you can continue to take pictures and add to this document as you wish. I have taken pictures of all of my math and literacy centers. I inserted the pictures into each cell and labeled accordingly for my Dual Language classroom. Centers labeled in yellow are all in Spanish while centers labeled in blue are in English.

1. Print each page 3 times and laminate. You will need one page for your centers wheel and the other two for your shoe box tubs. I originally only had one picture on the front side, but when it comes time to clean up, my students didn’t always put my centers back with the label on the front. This has been so helpful when it comes time to search for your centers. I have also taken all of my centers out of their boxes and put them inside my tubs.

2. Cut out the color wheel and the white wheel. Use a brad to connect the two wheels. Tape on the 4 centers you would like to work on for the week. The wheel will easily rotate and you don't need any HUGE pocket chart to move your students from each center.  Just rotate the wheel!

3. I have 4 colored tables in my room. Each color on the wheel represents the table the students sit at. On Monday, I review the 4 math centers we will be doing along with the learning targets. Tuesday-Friday, I teach whole group math for 30 minutes, then we break into small group centers. The students will do their assigned activity. The wheel rotates daily!  The students LOVE this wheel because they always know what is coming up the next day.  Routines help keep us all on track.  This wheel is also great for when you have a sub.  All the sub has to do is rotate the wheel and there is nobody to say, "you put the centers on the wrong spot!"  (THIS HAPPENED EVERY TIME I had my centers in a pocket chart.

You will need to have Microsoft Word 2010 in order to open this.

Click on the picture below to download your freebie!  Please be sure to leave comments on my TPT page after downloading.  I really appreciate it!!  Thank you in advance!
