November Bilingual Blog Hop!

Hello everyone!

It's been awhile since I've been on my blog!
Before we start, I would like to list THREE things that I am truly thankful for!!!
1.  I am thankful for my family!  I love them all with all of my heart!  I am truly blessed to have every single one of them in my life!
2.  I am thankful to have such a fantastic kindergarten team!  We work so well together and I am so happy that we all can team and bounce ideas off of each other!
3.  I am thankful for all of my friends!  I appreciate all of you so much!

I hope your year has started off to a fabulous start!  Our district started off with a new math series as well as a new reading series.

With our reading series, I needed to create a structured activity for one of my paras to use during our small group instruction.  My students have been making huge gains with letter names and sounds, but were still struggling with their sight words.  Once I started implementing these activities, my students have started flourishing, especially with their sight words.  I haven't finished creating them all, but eventually, I will have one activity book per week to use alongside the Maravillas Reading Series.  You definitely do not have to have this curriculum to use these books.

Each book is sequential and reviews the lessons from prior weeks.  How do I use these books?
I laminate these books and bind them so they are easy to access for the following year.  I also use these books for Interventions with students who need extra help.  I also copy these off and give them to our Special Education teacher who hasn't received any materials.

Click on ANY of the pictures to download your freebie!  The mini book will include all pages! Be sure to scroll to the very bottom to enter to win MORE of these Little Books! :-)  I will bundle ALL of the little books I have up until this point for the giveaway!  :-)

Example:   T suena /t/      /t/   /t/  /tigre/, and so on with each picture.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Maravillas-Tema-1-Semana-3-LETRA-T-1495933Page 2:  Game Board    Review pictures on the page that begin with the letter of the week.  Model the new word of the week and where to find it on the game board.  Then models saying:  letra ___, palabra ___, letra ___, palabra ___ and then the students join in.  You can play your own game using this.  We use this page to help the students track their eyes and follow along with their fingers.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Maravillas-Tema-1-Semana-3-LETRA-T-1495933Page 3 & 4:  Use the strategy of "I do, we do, you do" with the students.  Teacher models, teacher rereads the line with the students, the students read each line as a group (no teacher help).  Depending on your reading groups:  My Middle and Low groups I use the above strategy.  With my High group, I use the strategy, "I do, you do"

1)  Review pictures at the top of the page.  Example:  /t/ /t/ toro, /t/ /t/ tina, /t/ /t/ taco, /t/ /t/ teléfono    2)  Review letter names and or sight words
3)  Review the sight words from all prior lessons.
4)  Review the syllables of the week.  Everyone teaches Spanish a little different.  I teach the students to read as /sound/ /sound/ then blend the /syllable/.  Example:  /t/ /a/ /ta then go on to the next syllable

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Maravillas-Tema-1-Semana-3-LETRA-T-1495933Page 7:  Student practice segmenting words into syllables.  I have the students touch their head, shoulders, hips, knees, & toes for each syllable.  Example:  telaraña:  te - touch your head, la - touch your shoulders, ra - touch your hips, ña - touch your knees.  This really helps them identify their syllables when segmenting.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Maravillas-Tema-1-Semana-3-LETRA-T-1495933Page 8:  Students practice segmenting the word on their own and can 1) use their finger to draw a line from the picture to initial syllable, use a dry erase marker to initial syllable, or 3) use Wikki sticks to form a line to the initial syllable.
